![]() But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the Day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, 4-6. Scripture links the Day of the Lord to Christ’s coming and to the rapture. Notice the two big buts in Paul’s teaching about the end-times. If you’re a brother or sister in Christ, then that Day and the rapture should not come as a thief in the night. You shouldn’t be caught in the darkness. Why? Because we are children of the Light—Jesus the Light of the World. We are children of the Word of God that is a lamp unto our feet. His Word gives us all that we need to know about the last of the last Days. It gives us both the chronos times and the kairos seasons. That’s why both Paul and Jesus told us to watch with earnest expectation. The Greek word for sober in the passage above means to be free from illusion, to have presence of mind, and to have clear discernment. In short, to know the times and the seasons. So the choice is ours. Do we want to remain in the dark? Or do we want to shine the light of God’s Word so that we can see that Day approaching (Hebrews 10:25)?
