Paul prayed by the inspiration of the Spirit “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places” Ephesians 1:17-21.
In the last blog we said that this prayer contains something very timely that will clear up a lot of misunderstanding in the Church right now. We need to see three things. The first is to see the hope of our calling, the hope of glory, when we are perfected. Only then will we be able to fulfill our destiny in Christ and restore the cultural institutions to God’s original design. Now let’s look at the second thing we need to see.
2. THE RICHES OF THE GLORY OF HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS. If you are a believer, then you are a joint-heir in Christ (Romans 8:17). Now Christ is risen from the dead and has become the firstfruits (1 Corinthians 15:20). That is, He is the first one to be resurrected and overcome death. He is the first of many firstfruits who shall likewise be resurrected and overcome death. All those who are in Christ will be the rest of the firstfruits. We shall be resurrected at the rapture, at the beginning or first part of the 7th Day.
Romans 8:29 likewise says Christ is the firstborn among many brethren. When we are raptured, we will be completely conformed to His image, receiving the inheritance as firstborn sons. Psalm 2:7-9 tells us that part of this inheritance is the nations of the earth. We shall break the power of evil, dashing the ungodly nations to pieces.
Then and only then will we will rule over the earth with a rod of iron (symbolic of great strength). Yes, you read that correctly—we rule over the earth and not on the earth, for we stand before God’s throne, with our Lord seated at His right hand. Together, as the completed new Man, we shall execute justice during that appointed Day of the Lord (Acts 17:3).
Psalm 110 sets the stage. “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies.” It goes on to say that His people shall be willing volunteers in the Day of His power, in the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning [as that Day dawns]. Can you guess who the volunteers are? The joint-heirs.
Why is this important to see? The Bible says there is an appointed time when we shall consume and destroy the ungodly nations led by the Lawless One. The Apostle John said that the purpose of this time is to finally and totally destroy the works of the devil—and those he influences (1 John 3:8). We rule from above, for we take our place in the heavenlies as the spiritual influence over the earth. This is part of our inheritance.
