Paul prayed by the inspiration of the Spirit “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places” Ephesians 1:17-21.
In the last two blogs we said that this prayer contains something very timely that will clear up a lot of misunderstanding in the Church right now. We need to see three things. The first is to see the hope of our calling, the hope of glory, when we are perfected. The second is to see all that is involved with our inheritance in Christ. Perfected in Christ and conformed to His image at the rapture, we execute judgment against the ungodly nations and the powers of the enemy as we rule over the earth with Christ for a 1,000 years. Now let’s look at the final thing we need to see.
3. THE EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER TOWARD US WHO BELIEVE. We need to see the power unleashed in us as overcomers. We not only overcome death, we also overcome the enemy. Think about that for a moment. We finally get to pay Satan back for all the grief, suffering, persecution, and heartache we’ve endured because of him. And that’s not just for us. We not only overcome for ourselves, we overcome him for all time, for all eternity. Talk about exceeding greatness!
Why do we need to see this? As individual believers, we know we already have the victory in Christ. We already can use the name of Jesus to take authority over the devil and what he brings in our lives now. But as imperfect, immortal earthly beings, we cannot pull down the principalities, the powers, the rulers of the darkness of this age, and the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenlies. At least, not yet!
At the appointed time, the 7th Day, the Day of the Lord, when we are complete in Christ as joint-heirs, we will have the power of the Almighty God to bring down those evil forces influencing the earth. What a glorious day that will be! But as with the cultural institutions, we cannot bring God’s justice until the time that He has set. We cannot move apart from God and His agenda and hope to have total victory.
As we know all too well, power corrupts. Only perfected, glorified, and fully redeemed humans can handle this kind of power in joint-union with our Lord Jesus Christ. This is part of our heavenly calling and part of our inheritance.
